HEAL4WARD opens call for 11 fully funded PhD positions in advanced wound care research
The HEAL4WARD project has officially launched its open call for applications to recruit 11 Doctoral Candidates (DCs) within its Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network. The programme offers fully funded PhD positions for early-stage researchers interested in advancing next-generation solutions for wound infection diagnosis and treatment.
HEAL4WARD’s research programme combines expertise across nanomaterials, antimicrobial strategies, 3D printing, advanced sensing technologies and artificial intelligence to enable more precise and personalised infection management. DCs will contribute to interdisciplinary projects addressing challenges such as biofilm-related infections, real-time diagnostics and targeted antimicrobial therapies.
A unique MSCA doctoral training experience
HEAL4WARD provides a comprehensive doctoral training programme aligned with the MSCA Doctoral Network model, combining scientific excellence with structured skills development. Selected candidates will benefit from:
- Full-time employment contracts with competitive salaries and social benefits in line with MSCA regulations
- Joint supervision by leading academic, clinical and industrial partners
- Access to high-quality research infrastructures and interdisciplinary expertise
A key feature of the programme is its strong emphasis on mobility and international exposure. Throughout the programme, each DC will undertake secondments with other organisations within the HEAL4WARD consortium, including academic institutions, clinical environments and industrial partners. These secondments are designed to extend learning beyond the host institution, allowing candidates to gain practical experience in different sectors, strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration and better understand the translation of research into real-world healthcare solutions. DCs will be hosted across multiple European countries, including institutions in Ireland, Spain, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and other partner locations, reflecting the network’s broad geographic coverage.
Network-wide training and transferable skills
In addition to their individual research projects, DCs will participate in a comprehensive network-wide training programme designed to complement their scientific development. This includes thematic training schools and specialised workshops, as well as dedicated courses on transferable skills such as scientific communication, entrepreneurship, intellectual property management and research ethics. The programme also facilitates active engagement with stakeholders across academia, healthcare systems and industry, ensuring that candidates develop a well-rounded skill set and are equipped for diverse career pathways both within and beyond academia.
